YMN Review: Every You

 Every You is an alternative pop/rock band from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Roughly 300 miles from Ocala, where A Day To Remember hails from, Every You shares many similar qualities. Describing themselves as an "Alternative/Pop/Rock band out of South Florida with a little something more to it." That could not be more true. They play a heavier sound then many bands in the same genre, which is a refreshing and unexpected change.

 Every You released their debut album "A Change Of Scene" back in 2009. This is a very strong album, consisting of six songs, highlighted by "Piece Of My Mind" and the title track. It is hard to point out any glaring errors or weak points on the record, which is impressive and something that you don't find a lot of these days, with musicians trying to pump out as much content as possible. You can really tell that Every You cares about their music and that they want to put out the highest quality work for their fans. These guys deserve your respect and your ears.

 In the Fall of 2012, Every You released a new single "Yours To Keep" along with two other songs. "Yours To Keep" is a bit of a change from "A Change Of Scene". They keep the core of their sound but they have a more polished sound to them. "A Change Of Scene" was just so full of energy throughout, whereas "Yours To Keep" seems to dial it back a bit. Not that it's a bad thing, they now have a more mature sound to them as they seem to drift more towards the alternative rock genre and away from the pop side of things.

 It didn't take long for Every You to win me over as a fan. I wasn't exactly sure what to expect the first time I listened to them but was beyond pleasantly surprised. I look forward to hearing what these guys do in the future and wish them nothing but the best going forward!

YMN Reviews: Tiki Black

 Born in Paris, raised in France and Cameroon and now based in England, singer/songwriter Tiki Black has been entertaining audiences with her natural musical talent for years. For Tiki, the words and passion seem to come straight from the heart. For a first time listener like myself, I found that rather impressive. A childhood that involved many moves and little consistency, music was the one thing that she could always rely on and are we ever glad that she did.

 Released in July of 2013, Tiki Black's debut album "Out Of The Black" is nothing short of a masterpiece. Ten tracks are included on the album and each one is worth listening to ,and more then once. Piano is quite evident throughout the record and it compliments her voice quite well. If I had to pick one song that stood out to be, it would have to be the first track, "Feel Like Smoke". The song has a very powerful feel to it and it does a great job of setting the tone for the rest of the album. Other personal standouts include the title track "Out Of The Black" and "Powder Masks".

 Throughout the past few years, Tiki Black has played many shows in Europe and that will continue into next year as well. I can only imagine the powerful and moving shows that Tiki Black puts on and if you get a chance to go, I highly recommend that you do.

Interview with Seeking Empire

How did the band members meet? 

All of us were in other bands and eventually met/played with each other. 

How did the band name come about? 

It was something Alan came up with before the project was put together.  It's actually really nice because coming up with a name can be a complete nightmare ha ha!

Who are some of your major influences? 
I would have to say Dave Grohl, Jim Ward, and Tim Kasher.

Where do you draw the inspiration from to create music?

Mostly from other music, really.  It's easy to get stuck into a certain type of writing, so it's nice to feed off of what you hear.

We heard you are releasing a new music video soon. Care to give us any hints as to what it might be like? 

It will be perverse, and probably illegal.  Kidding, it's shot by the amazing Angelo Ibanez from Ajapop films.  There will be lights, beautiful people...and, did I say beautiful people?

What do you hope listeners take away from your music? 
I hope they can relate the songs to their life.  I really grasp onto melodies, myself, but that's just because I can't remember lyrics very well...or at all.  If it even captures one person, then I'm happy.

Run On The Sun "New Empire" EP- A Review

In late February, Greenwich based band, Run On The Sun, released their debut EP, "New Empire". We are going to break down all five songs and let you know what we think. Enjoy!

1) "New Empire"
To be honest, I wasn't to happy with the intro to the album. It didn't have that flashy hook that sets the tone of the record. However when the vocals kicked in, it instantly grabbed my attention. The vocals, in my opinion, drew comparison to those of Silverstein and Secondhand Serenade. From this point forward, everything seemed to click and it seemed as though the band founds it's groove. I found the chorus to be one of the better parts of the song as it was very catchy and had that "sing along" factor to it.

2) "My Name"

My personal favourite from the album. This song showcased the bands true potential, not only in their instrumentals but in their lyrics as well. They are very heartfelt and easy to relate to. Once again, a catchy chorus is present and provides an anchor to which the rest of the song is built.

3) "She Is My Truth"
This is yet another song that is very easy to relate to. This is just another example of the bands true writing talent and ability to connect with people through their lyrics. This song is more mellow then the two previous and provides a nice transition from the more upbeat song to the softer acoustic ones.

4) "Moonlight"
The first acoustic song on the album which provided a bit of a change, however nothing drastic as the mood throughout the album remains relatively stable. Run On The Sun has the perfect voice for acoustic song so naturally "Moonlight" flows very smoothly. Overall a solid acoustic song that provides a showcase of the truly stunning vocals that this band possesses.

5) "Disappear"
Another solid acoustic song. However, some may find it rather dull having two acoustic songs back to back. Personally, I see nothing wrong with it's placement. I find this song much more captivating then "Moonlight". In turn, this makes for a powerful album from a very talented band.

"New Empire" is a solid first step for Run On The Sun and provides them with a foundation to build off of in the future. There are very few flaws in the work and none that take away from the albums songs. I look forward to this bands continued growth and can not wait to see what they come up with next. Five songs for $4.95 on iTunes, definitely worth it and highly recommended.
